guidelines

For a business setting up its first website, it is generally helpful to start by focussing one's ideas on the site's purpose, and the functions it should provide.

[Contact me for guidelines for e-commerce websites].

First it should describe the goods and services your business provides, and contain a means for the viewer to contact you.

Secondly, it should assure potential customers of your standing by some means eg state how long you have been in business, give a list of your clients, or display a portfolio of work done etc.

Thirdly it should provide feedback from the viewer by means of a guest book, or contact form.
Fourthly the design should promote your site in search engines.  Ideally when someone searches for goods or services you provide you want your name to come at the top of the list. So does everyone else. Search engines rank sites in search order according to a set of criteria chief of which is how many other websites link to yours. So it’s not who you know that counts, it’s who knows you!

Finally, your website should have an informative or  memorable name eg www.superwonderful.co.uk
